We all need a little comfort food in our lives — for me, that means cereal. Simply put, a bowl of crunchy, flaky, slightly sweet grains mixed with milk puts me in a good mood. When I was younger, my favorites were all sugary, but once I grew up, healthier, high-fiber cereals stole me Lucky Charms — and taste buds.
There’s just one problem: I’ve become somewhat of a cereal connoisseur and I can never find one that’s just right. I buy several types and mix them together at home to create my own blend, often adding extras like dried berries, sliced almonds, and ground flaxseeds for added protein, fiber, and omega 3s. But my life got a little easier when I discovered [me]&goji, a company that lets you create custom organic and all-natural cereal blends — then ships it to your front door.
You start with one of six whole grain bases, such as organic raw five-grain muesli or samurai wheat (they even offer a gluten-free option). My favorite creation so far? A basic one with multigrain flakes, raspberries, almonds, and cinnamon, which I named Ethereal Cereal. Tanya’s tip: To get the most out of your cereal, aim for at least 5 grams of fiber per serving and stay away from the very calorie dense varieties, usually granolas or kinds with added sugar — even if it’s covering fruits and nuts! Mix your cereal with protein, like low-fat yogurt or skim milk, and you’ll stay fuller longer.
