Skirt Chaser
I used to think only stuffy country club women wore skirts to work out. I, on the other hand, have always worked out in running shorts and whatever free promotional tees I have cluttering my dresser drawers. Running in a skirt? Please. If I did that, next thing I’d be buying jodhpurs and a golf sweater vest.
However, recently I was browsing at a Lululemon store here in NYC when I spotted a skirt that made me…well, a little curious. It was pink with a heather gray band and cinching on the sides. I decided to try it on, you know, just to see...
Of course, once it was on my body, it was a done deal. Now that I’ve been running in a skirt for a few weeks, I have to say, it’s actually a serious piece of running apparel. You know how shorts can sometimes ride up your inner thighs? A skirt completely eliminates that problem.
Take a look at some of my favorite running skirts.
Lululemon Run/Jog Skirt, $54, Shop.Lululemon.com
This is the one that originally got me hooked. It’s got it all—sweat-wicking material, pockets, and built-in lining so you don’t have to worry about a workout wedgie.
Lotta Breeze Capris, $75, SkirtSports.com
Here’s a great year-round option. It’s got leggings attached for cooler months, or for a more modest look. There’s also a convenient spot for your music—carry your iPod in the pocket and feed the headphones up and out through a handy little hole.
Red Plaid Running Skirt, $58, RunningSkirts.com
Want to get noticed? Stand out from the pack at your next 5K with one of the fashionable skirts from RunningSkirts.com. Plaid is nice (Audrina from The Hills wore one recently), or go wild with leopard print.
SkirtSports WonderGirl Running Dress, $69, REI.com
If you’re really feeling the whole skirt thing, go all out with a dress. An all-in-one piece makes it easy to pack for the gym.
Tanya’s Tip: When Amelia told me about the Lululemon skirt, I immediately had to run out and get it. Ladies, the girl knows what she is talking about. The skirt was a hit during my workout and with my husband.

If your summer’s been anything like mine, you’ve spent a number of Saturdays watching friends and family say “I do.” So many weddings… so many bridesmaids groovin’ to “Single Ladies” on the dance floor. As a result of all the wedded bliss I’ve been observing lately, I’ve a newfound appreciation for a very bridal fabric—lace. Of course, you don’t need to put a ring on it to wear this intricate trim. Check out all the ways you can incorporate lace into your daily wardrobe.
They say you shouldn’t be seduced by the packaging. But sometimes it makes all the difference. Especially for a product you carry with you all day — like your lip color. You want something that won’t take up too much real estate in your already crammed handbag, or even better, you could carry it in your pocket. Check out my picks for best on-the-go lip color.
I know it’s August when I find myself shopping excessively. It’s not that I’m actually buying much—I just need a break from the humidity of NYC’s sticky streets and nothing beats store-grade air conditioning. The deeper we get into August, the more I find myself seeking refuge in stores to “browse.” And yet, there’s no need to arouse the suspicion of watchful shopkeepers all over the city. Here are five ways to beat the heat with your beauty products....
It’s not that I have anything against belts; I just never really noticed them. When piecing together an ensemble I’ve always been more occupied by the shoes or the jewelry or the jacket. Call me practical, but belts have always served a pretty basic purpose: they hold my pants up.
As I was putting together this round up of weekend bags, I couldn’t help but think of Angelina from Jersey Shore. Remember, she’s the one who showed up to the beach house with her belongings stuffed in garbage bags? She’s also the one who said this: “How do you go in a [bleeping] Jacuzzi with a thong and a bra? Wear a thong bikini—that’s a little bit more classier.” In honor of Angelina, I thought I’d highlight something that’s a lot more “classier”—using actual luggage. These easy-to-carry bags are perfect for any quick getaway—from a winery tour in Napa to a woodsy retreat in northern Michigan, or maybe even a weekend at the Jersey Shore.
Each time I go running I face the same dilemma: what do I do with my keys? This is really a good thing considering that when I first started running my quandaries were more along the lines of: Should I be breathing? If so, how? Will I make it back to my apartment alive? The keys question I can handle and as it turns out, I may now have an answer: stuff them in my chest.
Need a mood boost? I’ve got two words for you: floral print. Now, I’m not certain of the science behind it, but I wore a floral dress yesterday and seriously spent the afternoon feeling like I was in a Rodgers and Hammerstein musical. I skipped, I whistled, and like my dress, I was unabashedly girly. It felt good.
We’ve been dating for two months. Is that long enough to leave my tinted moisturizer at his place? I owe this lovely little quandary to cosmetic brand Jouer. Their recent launch of the Mini Luminizing Moisture Tint has got me wondering where in NYC I should stash my makeup.
This is an intervention. Now, I know you care about your hair. You would never intentionally hurt it. However, I also know it’s getting warmer and the sun can make us do crazy things. Swimming in chlorine…soaking in salt water…exposing your luscious locks to the sun’s harsh rays? You wouldn’t!
