Have a spring Fling
Written by Rachel Berman
It’s a taxing day today (pun-intended), which might make you hit the sauce — the chocolate sauce, that is. I’ve definitely been known to snack on a chocolate bar or two when I get stressed. At least there’s science behind our cravings. Chocolate increases our mood-boosting neurotransmitters such as endorphins and serotonin, which in turn helps us feel happier and less stressed. Of course, the downside is that chocolate is packed with calories and saturated fat, so if you eat too much of it, your good mood won’t stick around for long. That said, I’d never suggest you give it up completely — I certainly wouldn’t! Instead, try a product that lets you indulge with less guilt: Fling chocolate.
My first Fling was love at first bite. It’s a healthier twist on a Twix bar — light, whipped chocolate layered on top of a crisp, meringue cracker. Sold two to a wrapper, they come in three flavors: milk chocolate, dark chocolate, and hazelnut. Each Fling is 85 calories, 5 grams of fat, and 10 grams carbohydrates (compared to 140 calories, 7 grams of fat, and 18 grams of carbs per Twix bar). The most fun part? They shimmer — really — thanks to a sprinkling of an FDA-approved mineral, mica. Fling is currently sold in stores on the West Coast, but is available online and spreading to other stores soon — so you can have a Fling no matter where you are.
Tanya’s tip: Since they come two to a pack, it can be difficult to eat just one. My advice? Eat one as soon as you open a wrapper, then put the second in the freezer. Next time you need a little pick-me-up, you’ll have a frozen treat. Or, order the individual packages online.
