Make today Skinny Tuesday
Written by Rachel Berman
Mardi Gras may literally mean Fat Tuesday, but that doesn’t mean you need to pack on pounds celebrating. Yesterday, we gave you a Skinny Kitchen recipe for Shrimp and Scallop Gumbo that wouldn’t break the calorie bank. Today, it’s time for a drink to go with it.I love everything about New Orleans — from Mardi Gras to Cajun and Creole foods to jazz to, of course, hurricanes. Though the tasty drink is served all over the country now, it was invented at Pat O’Brien’s on Bourbon Street. It’s a deliciously fruity beverage, but you have to be careful (and not just because of the knock ‘em down alcohol content) — one serving, usually served in a 24-ounce glass, can clock in at over 800 calories. You shouldn't have to sabotage your healthy ways just because you want to indulge in a little culture! So as you celebrate Mardi Gras today (or relax to jazz another time), whip up my lower-cal version — I promise it’ll still rock you like a, well, you know.
