Passion for earth-friendly fashion
Written by Amelia Mularz
We gave you the Skinny on eco-friendly cosmetics for Earth Day. Now that you’ve got your makeup covered, turn your attention to the rest of your body. Here are some of my favorite eco-chic clothing and accessory lines to keep you green from head to toe.
It’s in the details: ecoSkin organic fashion, shopflick.com
From sustainable materials to coconut trim buttons to the recycled boxes the clothes are shipped in, ecoSkin doesn’t forget about the environment any step of the way. Head to Shopflick to shop or to learn more about ecoSkin’s mission and line. The line got some serious love on the “Go Green” episode of their “The Hall of Style” web show.
Comfy and conscious: Hessnatur organic fashion, hessnatur.com
If you’re in the market for comfy eco basics, look no further than Hessnatur. The collection runs the gamut from organic cotton tank dresses to simple tees to cozy cardigans and blazers. Speaking of tees, as part of the spring/summer collection, Hessnatur creative director Miguel Adrover has created a truly artistic organic tee to benefit the Grameen Foundation. The tee costs just $20 and 25% of the proceeds go to a foundation that works to fight poverty in Bangladesh.
Best bet for sweat: Gaiam organic workout gear, gaiam.com
Go green even when you’re just going to the gym. Gaiam created an entire line of sportswear called ActiveSoy made from natural materials like soybean fiber, bamboo, leather alternatives, and organic, breathable cotton. The ActiveSoy ruched shorts, for example, are perfect for when you’re hitting the leg press or yoga mat hard.
Walking the walk: zoe&zac shoes, payless.com
We’ve seen eco shoe lines before, like Natalie Portman’s Te Casan that launched a few years back. But making an earth-conscious footwear choice shouldn’t cost you $300 a pop. That’s what makes zoe&zac, a green shoe line that launched at Payless this year, so great. The shoes are made from organic cotton, hemp, and recycled rubber — plus they’re affordable! I plan on living in the Daisy Frayed Skimmers (just $19.99) all summer long.
Stay green all year long!
