So rock ‘n roll
Written by Rachel Berman
My number-one passion, hands down, is nutrition. But I’m also obsessed with music. I appreciate it in any form, from any time period, spanning many different genres. Growing up, I knew more about the Beatles than I did American history and my favorite form of exercise was rocking out to tunes in my bedroom. I still do it now, and though it may seem silly, I highly recommend it. Depending on your weight, you can burn 350-500 calories per hour by dancing.
All of this to say, when I heard the Cleveland Rock and Roll Hall of Fame was opening an Annex on Mercer Street in New York City, I knew I had to be there. I went to the official opening last Tuesday and it was even better than I’d imagined. I encourage all of you to check it out! You’ll see all sorts of memorabilia — from Bruce Springsteen’s ‘57 Chevy to a handwritten poem by Jim Morrison to Elvis Presley’s motorcycle jacket to John Lennon’s iconic glasses. But, better yet, you’ll hear tons of the best rock music of all time. Since I was lucky enough to know one of the planners working on the opening, I went to the warehouse after-party (and ran into the likes of Molly Sims, Taylor Momsen from Gossip Girl, Ciara, Kat DeLuna, C.J. Ramone, Les Paul, and Mr. Rolling Stone himself, Jann Wenner). After the amazing food was passed around, I burned off plenty of calories grooving to the music on the dance floor.
Tanya’s Tip: Next time you’re in the New York area looking for a fun, midday activity, go to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Annex. Instead of sitting in the movie theater eating candy, walk through the exhibit and discover your connection to generations of music.
